Some colours of our garden

I fell in love a very yummy Crate Paper ephemera pack (don't you just love those packs!). Most of the embellies on this layout is from that pack.

Now don't get me wrong, I love this layout. I love the background, the colours and of course the ephemera. I know you can make a busy background work but I think something didn't quite come together on this one.

What I do seem to love doing these days is documenting photos that don't contain people. You know, the cups of coffee, the garden, craft tables, etc. I've been thinking about stories more and more thanks to Ali Edwards launch of her new-look website. I'm certainly not a avid follower of hers but I do like her approach to story telling. So I've started writing down some stories and see where it takes me along this scrappy path...

Challenging myself

Hi there. It's time again for another layout for a challenge. This time it's for Once Upon A Sketch. I find their sketches absolutely beautiful but very difficult for me - which is exactly why I keep submitting my layouts for their challenges!

Their sketches definitely lend themselves to mixed media very nicely and if you've followed me long enough, I have a love/hate relationship with mm! I keep myself honest and dip into the messy products every month in the hope that I get better.

I think I can see my style slowly appearing. I love stitching on my layouts. I'm not afraid to layer papers and embellishments. I enjoy doing pops of colour but enjoy monochrome layouts even more.

Anyway, this is the OUAS challenge:

And this is my take on it. I stopped and started several times on this one but I managed to complete it. At one stage, I simply had to tell myself 'Just glue it down!'

Fighting against the creative slump!

Hi there. It's been a slow month for me in the scrappy world. I've been a little creatively challenged :( I've hung in there though and finally came up with a page for this month's inspiration board over at D-Lish Scraps.

Some beautiful colours and images in this board. I was particularly inspired by the window and florals in the top left corner as well as the frames image.

I tried to create my version of the florals that are hanging down from the window frame in the inspiration board. I used a lot of the embellies included in this month's D-Lish Scraps 'Just Add Paper' kit.

Here's to successfully fighting a creative slump!

Show time!

I'm definitely on a heat embossing kick at the moment. This layout is for the Sassy Scrappers August mood board challenge. I loved the colours of this board. Such rich and vibrant.

August Moodboard Challenge

I was particularly inspired by the flowers. I tried to recreate the mood of those flowers in my layout. Not sure if I was entirely successful but I thought the end result was pleasing to the eye...

I stamped some flowers and heat embossed them in white. I added some embellie flowers, sprays and sequins. I did do a little a colouring with watercolour pencils but it's a bit too subtle to see in the photos I think.

In stitches

I loved putting this page together. I enjoy stitching on my pages and I did quite a bit of it on this page. I played along with the sketch challenge over at Berry71Bleu. They challenges are pretty fabulous.

I decided to stitch the circles of the sketch and then add only a few extra embellishments. I found the embellishments to be the hardest part of this page. I didn't want to take away from the photo.

A few close ups...

A little embossing goodness

I seem to be on a heat embossing kick lately. Jot Magazine have a lovely new challenge series running called Something Challenge Board. Based on the Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue rhyme....

This month it is Something stripey, something bold, something glittering, something gold. And who doesn't like a little glitter and gold in their lives!

something gold

I've added some stripey paper, lots of gold embellies from the divine Crate Paper and added a bold black word.

My glittery addition was some gold embossed stamping. Loved how that turned out. I'm thinking I might do that more often...

Thinking outside the box

I was sorting out my recipe folder and found amongst the sea of papers, a cake stencil that came free with a recipe magazine a long time ago. I have never and will never use this stencil and put it aside to throw in the bin. My husband saw this and said 'Could you use that as a stencil for crafting?' I took one look at the stencil then one look at my husband and yelled out 'YES! You're brilliant!'

Lessons learnt from this scene:
1. Never assume my husband doesn't pay attention to my craft love.
2. Think outside the box.

Now back to some crafting....

I used that lovely stencil as a background for a card challenge over at Feeling Sketchy.

Card Sketch 97

I used Tattered Angels glimmer mist to spray the stencil swirls on the background and then layered a few papers over it.

I seem to have an endless supply of these gorgeous K&Company gold die cuts - I cut one of them up to create the sentiment on the card.

I distressed the edges and added a D-Lish Scraps flower. I really enjoyed creating this card.

Life.Paper.Scrapbook challenge

I'm completely ignoring the possible creative block that's sneaking up on me and simply continuing with my scrapbooking...It tends to happen when I encounter a hiccup with a page (i.e. the last post).

I joined in over at Life.Paper.Scrapbook. Their mood board was incredibly amazing but such a challenge.

And this is what I came up with...

Lots of things inspired me. The background paper and doily was inspired by the HOME mat. The ruffled ribbon was inspired by the scarf and the rustic door image inspired me to add a key as well as gold embossed a heart lock wood veneer. I distressed and inked the edges of all the papers - something I haven't done in a while.
